The JPW Gold Barons might have had a name
change from Jaguars to Barons this year, but after Saturday’s game
against Orange we can see it is still the same team. The offense
showed off its ground attack with what they like to call “Thunder
and Lighting” putting together two 50 yard drives that were
capped off with an 11 yard TD run by Johnny Hill (Thunder) and a
36 yard TD run by Demonte King (Lighting). The second quarter was
much of the same, lead by a punishing offensive line of Matthew
Martinez, Derek Andresen, Jacob Church, Tyler Lamantain, Brady
Larson, Gavyn Alexander, Drake Evans, Austin Smith, & Blake
Provost who put together a 45 yard drive that was capped by a 15
yard scamper by Johnny Hill. While the Baron offense was running
on all cylinders the defense was making a statement by only giving
up a total of 9 yards in the first half. The defense was led by
leading tacklers Alek Torgersen & Robert Reyes who combined for 25
tackles and punished the Chief attack all game long. Late in the 2nd
quarter Phoenix Gallegos came up with a big hit that jarred the
ball loose and was picked up by Jacob Church who rumbled 55 yards
for a TD to end the half at 28-0. The Barons opened the 2nd
half with a 61 yard drive that was capped by a 13 yard touchdown
run by Demonte King. Early in the 4th quarter the
Barons put together another 50 yard drive with key runs by Mason
Clevenger & Tanner Brown which was finished off with a 23 yard TD
run by Tanner Brown. With the Chief ground attack being held at
bay, Orange went to the air but Baron DB’s led by Rudy Borgonia,
Garrett Stiffler-Greasby, Scott Ellis, Cooper Davies (1 Int), and
Jason Baker (1 Int) answered the call. The Barons defense
finished the game only allowing 20 yards of total offense while
the Baron offense put up 250 yards in the 40-0 win.
